Objective: Child creates a simple map of a familiar space and uses position words to describe where things are.
🧺 Materials
- large paper
- crayons or markers
- small toy or button as a marker
📋 Instructions (parent)
- Explain that a map is a drawing from above that shows where things are.
- Walk through one room together and name what you see in Spanish: bed, table, door, window.
- Draw a simple map of that room together, adding each thing as you say its name.
- Use a small toy as a marker and give directions in Spanish: arriba, abajo, al lado.
- Talk about your bigger world: your house is in your city, in California, in the United States.
- Take your child on a 'treasure hunt' following your map to find a hidden small surprise.
➕ Extension ideas
- Draw a map of the whole house or the path from home to a favorite place like church.
- Hide a treat and draw a simple treasure map with an X, giving clues in Spanish.
