Objective: Child creates a simple map of a familiar space and uses position words to describe where things are.

🧺 Materials

  • large paper
  • crayons or markers
  • small toy or button as a marker

📋 Instructions (parent)

  1. Explain that a map is a drawing from above that shows where things are.
  2. Walk through one room together and name what you see in Spanish: bed, table, door, window.
  3. Draw a simple map of that room together, adding each thing as you say its name.
  4. Use a small toy as a marker and give directions in Spanish: arriba, abajo, al lado.
  5. Talk about your bigger world: your house is in your city, in California, in the United States.
  6. Take your child on a 'treasure hunt' following your map to find a hidden small surprise.

➕ Extension ideas

  • Draw a map of the whole house or the path from home to a favorite place like church.
  • Hide a treat and draw a simple treasure map with an X, giving clues in Spanish.
