🖨️ Print

Objective: Child names and recognizes basic feelings (happy, sad, angry, scared, excited) by making and matching facial expressions in a mirror.

⏱️ ~30 min 🧺 2 min setup · pretend

🧺 Materials

  • a hand mirror or bathroom mirror
  • 5 small slips of paper or sticky notes
  • a pen

📋 Instructions (parent)

  1. Sit together in front of a mirror and tell your child you are going to play a 'feelings faces' game.
  2. Say a feeling word in Spanish and make that face yourself first: feliz (big smile), triste (frown), enojado (scrunched eyebrows), asustado (wide eyes), emocionado (excited and bouncy).
  3. Invite your child to copy the face in the mirror, then say the feeling word out loud together.
  4. Take turns: your child makes a face and you guess which feeling it is in Spanish.
  5. Talk about a time today or this week when they felt that way, keeping it warm and gentle.
  6. End by making the 'feliz' face together and giving a hug.

➕ Extension ideas

  • Draw each feeling face on a slip of paper and stick them on the fridge as a 'feelings chart' to point to during the day.
  • Look at pictures in a book or photos and name how each person might be feeling in Spanish.
