🎵 Fast and Slow Freeze Dance
Baile Rápido y Lento
🎵 Music
MU.K.1PE.K.1
Objective: Child moves their body to match fast and slow music and freezes when the music stops, showing tempo awareness.
🧺 Materials
- a phone or speaker to play music
- a clear space to move
- optional: a scarf or sock to wave
📋 Instructions (parent)
- Clear a little dance space and explain: fast music means we move fast, slow music means we move slow.
- Play or sing something fast and dance with quick steps, calling out '¡rápido, rápido!'
- Switch to slow music or hum a slow tune and move like you are in slow motion, saying 'leeento, leeento'.
- Add the freeze rule: when the music stops, everyone freezes like a statue ('¡congelados!').
- Hand your child a scarf to wave fast and slow with the music, leading the dance themselves.
- End with one slow swaying song to calm bodies down before finishing.
➕ Extension ideas
- Dance only one body part at a time fast or slow: just hands, just feet, just heads.
- Take turns being the DJ who decides fast, slow, or stop while the other person dances.
