Los Pollitos Cantan
🎵 Music
MU.K.1MU.K.2WL.K.1
Objective: Child sings a traditional Spanish children's song from memory, matching the melody and adding simple gestures for the words.
🧺 Materials
- your voice
- a small blanket or towel (a soft 'nest')
- optional: a toy chick or sock to be the pollito
📋 Instructions (parent)
- Make a cozy 'nest' on the floor with a blanket and sit inside it together like baby chicks.
- Sing 'Los pollitos dicen' once slowly so your child hears the whole song.
- Teach gestures: cup hands to your mouth for 'pío pío', shiver for 'cuando tienen frío', rub your tummy for 'tienen hambre'.
- Sing it again together, doing the gestures, and let your child be the little chick peeking out of the nest.
- Sing it a third time, pausing before the last word of each line so your child fills in the word.
- Take a bow and 'pío pío' goodnight as the chicks tuck into the nest.
➕ Extension ideas
- Sing the song very softly like sleepy chicks, then loudly like hungry chicks, to play with volume.
- Make a paper-plate chick beak and quack along, then add a verse about another farm animal.
