VA.K.1VA.K.2
Objective: Child explores texture and shape in painting by using household items such as forks, sponges, and cotton balls as brushes.
🧺 Materials
- paper
- washable paint
- a fork
- a sponge or cotton balls
- a small plate for paint
- an old shirt or smock
📋 Instructions (parent)
- Cover the table and put on an old shirt, then squeeze a little paint onto a plate.
- Instead of a real brush, hand your child a fork, a sponge, and a cotton ball.
- Dip each household item in paint and discover the different marks it makes: lines, dots, and soft clouds.
- Let your child mix and layer the textures freely across the paper.
- Talk about which tool made which pattern, naming the colors in Spanish.
- Set the painting aside to dry and wash hands together.
➕ Extension ideas
- Hunt for more 'brushes' around the house: a leaf, a toy car wheel, or a crumpled paper towel.
- Make a texture chart by painting one stripe with each different tool and labeling it.
