Objective: Child isolates the beginning sound of Spanish words and finds household objects that start with that sound.

🧺 Materials

  • a bag or pillowcase
  • household objects of different beginning sounds

📋 Instructions (parent)

  1. Tell your child you are going on a sound safari to hunt for things that start with a chosen sound.
  2. Pick a sound, like /m/, and say a few examples: 'mmm-mano', 'mmm-mesa'.
  3. Send your little explorer to find objects in the house that begin with that sound and bring them to the bag.
  4. For each item, say the word slowly and stretch the first sound together.
  5. Empty the bag and review your safari treasures, naming each beginning sound.

➕ Extension ideas

  • Pretend to be animals on safari that only eat things starting with the chosen sound.
  • Switch sounds halfway through and re-sort the treasures into two piles.
