📖 Rhyme Basket Toss
Canasta de Rimas
📖 Literacy & Language
RF.K.2WL.K.1
Objective: Child identifies and produces simple Spanish rhyming words while tossing objects into a basket.
🧺 Materials
- a laundry basket or bowl
- soft socks rolled into balls
- small household objects (gato toy, hat, spoon)
📋 Instructions (parent)
- Set the basket a few steps away and gather the sock balls.
- Say a Spanish word out loud, like 'gato', and ask the child to say a word that rhymes, like 'pato'.
- Each time they make a rhyme, they get to toss a sock into the basket.
- Take turns: let the child give YOU a word to rhyme so they hear you play too.
- Count the socks that land in the basket and celebrate the rhyme score.
➕ Extension ideas
- Make a silly rhyme chain: keep adding rhyming words until you run out (real or made-up).
- Sing a familiar Spanish song and pause before the last word so the child fills in the rhyme.
